Paper Submissions
============

ECSA 2023 seeks four types of papers for the research track:

* Research papers (max. 16 pages in LNCS style) which describe novel contributions to software architecture research (submissions should cover work that has a sound scientific/technological basis and has been validated)

* Education and training papers (max. 16 pages in LNCS style) that address methodologies, experiences and best practices for teaching and training software architecture

* Experience reports (max. 16 pages in LNCS style) that cover innovative implementations, novel applications, insightful performance results and experience in applying software architecture research advances to practical situations and systems

* Short papers (max. 8 pages in LNCS style) that present novel and preliminary work-in-progress or challenges in a topic of software architecture research, education, and training. Submissions must have a sound basis, but not necessarily be validated in full.

All submitted papers will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process. Papers will be selected based on originality, quality, soundness, and relevance. All contributions must be original, not published, accepted, or submitted for publication elsewhere. Contravention of this concurrent submission policy will be deemed a serious breach of ethics, and appropriate action will be taken in all such cases. Plagiarism checking will be conducted and any paper reporting more than a 20% match with published work will be desk-rejected.

To note is that research papers, education and training papers, and experience reports that are rejected in their categories may be re-evaluated as short papers only if the committee decides on rejection of the full paper on the basis that it presents preliminary work.

All contributions must be formatted according to the Springer LNCS style (http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0). Page limits include figures and references.

Contributions need to be submitted in PDF format via EasyChair to the ECSA 2023

JOURNAL FIRST: Call for Papers
================================================================

ECSA 2023 opened up a partnership with Journal of Systems and Software (JSS) and IEEE Software to incorporate journal-first papers into its program. Authors of journal-first papers accepted by JSS or IEEE Software since January 2022 are invited to submit their work to be presented at ECSA 2023. This will allow authors of journal-first papers to present their work to the community.

Scope
====

A journal-first paper submitted to ECSA 2023 must adhere to the following criteria:

* The paper must have been already accepted after peer review by JSS or IEEE Software.
* The paper is in the scope of the conference.
* The paper has not been presented at, and is not under consideration for, journal-first programs of other conferences.

Submissions
=========

Authors of manuscripts that respect the above criteria are invited to submit a summary of the original paper that highlights the contributions for the community together with a pointer to the original journal paper.

The submission must conform to LNCS style. Note that if you want the summary to be included in the ECSA 2023 proceedings companion volume, it must be 6-8 pages long. For the companion proceedings, ECSA 2023 will use a two-step process. Online proceedings (available before the start of the conference) will include all the accepted contributions (including Journal First summaries) to the companion proceedings and will be published online on the ECSA 2023 web page (i.e. no formal proceedings). The accepted contributions will be accessible only by the ECSA 2023 workshop participants. After the conference, we will organize LNCS post-proceedings, in which the contributions will be published.

Proposals must be submitted must be made electronically via the online EasyChair submission site for the ECSA 2023 conference, selecting the “JournalFirst” Track: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ecsa2023

Evaluation
=======

Authors will be invited to present their paper at ECSA 2023 after a check that the paper is in scope of the conference. As the papers have been already reviewed and accepted by the journal, they will not be reviewed again for technical content. Our plan is to include in the journal first program as many papers as possible; only in case an exceptionally high number of proposals is received, not all submissions might be selected. If needed, presentation proposals will be prioritized according to fit to the conference theme and structure of sessions.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DE&I): Call for Papers
================================================================

It has been widely demonstrated that diversity in gender, culture, religion, country, etc. is a key factor to have success and be competitive and innovative in software development. Setting up diverse teams in ICT organizations, including companies, universities, and research centers, is necessary, but still hard to realize in practice, even if all recognize the importance of promoting equal opportunities and inclusion for the success of projects. This challenge is particularly important in the context of software architecture, which requires intensive interactions in the development teams, and communication with other teams and stakeholders.

In this scenario, following the success of the past editions, the 7th special track on “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I)” (previously Gender Diversity in Software Architecture & Software Engineering) is part of the 17th premier European Conference on Software Architecture (ECSA 2023). DE&I will provide a forum for discussions about how to achieve more diversity and promote equity and inclusion in software architecture research and practice.

Any people regardless of their gender, culture, etc., are invited to collaborate submitting their work and attending to this track. Students, industry professionals, academics, and others with an interest in software architecture are very welcome to promote networking and technical discussion to motivate the participation and visibility of every individual, regardless of their background.

Topics of interest are listed as follows but not limited to:

* Diversity, equity, and inclusion in activities related to software architecture, e.g., in software architecture teams in specific countries with their particular culture
* Diversity, equity, and inclusion in the software architecture research community, e.g., reviewing process (single-blind vs double-blind), attendance to physical or virtual conferences for countries or institutions
* Diversity, equity, and inclusion in global software architecture teams working in academia or industry
* Empirical studies (e.g., experiments, surveys, mining software repositories) to understand how individuals perceive diversity, equity, and inclusion in activities related to software architecture
* Empirical studies to understand the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion in activities related to software architecture
* Experience reports of initiatives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in activities related to software architecture
* Experience reports of initiatives to promote the visibility of women in the software architecture field

There will be a mix of presentations and a panel to discuss current and future issues in the field by leading experts from industry and academia.

Submissions
========

Paper submissions must be made electronically via the online EasyChair submission site for the ECSA 2023 conference https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ecsa2023 selecting the DE&I track.

We seek contributions as summaries, preliminary results from work-in-progress, discussion of challenges, position papers, experience reports, or studies; all regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion in Software Architecture and Software Engineering, and more generally in STEM, both in industry and academia.

All submissions must conform to the LNCS template (https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-guidelines) and must not exceed 8 pages + 2 pages only for references.

All contributions will undergo a peer-review process, being reviewed by at least three reviewers. The evaluation criteria for submissions will be whether they contribute ideas or results to the challenge of achieving more diversity in the field of software architecture and whether the argumentation and/or study are sound.

Proceedings
