The internet provides numerous benefits and opportunities but also poses various risks to individuals and societies. Misinformation, illegal activities such as drug and weapon trafficking, and the use of the dark web for criminal purposes are among the phenomena that may harm societies at various levels.
Big data collection and analysis from the web, including the surface, deep, and dark web, is essential to reveal these threats' magnitude, patterns, and impact. From monitoring social media and online debates to expose polarization levels, the influence of misinformation, and the role of automated accounts networks and their impact on online conversations, to the analysis of deep, dark web and blockchain data to reveal illicit trades, financial networks, and economic routes, big data analysis can contribute to understanding and designing countermeasures to these cyber threats. The 1st International Workshop on Big dAta aNalysis anD Illicit Trends - BANDIT aims to foster collaboration among experts from both academia and industry to reveal, analyze, and propose countermeasures to cyber threats of different natures using Big Data. By engaging with different figures working in the fields of Big Data, the workshop aims to create an environment where innovative solutions and best practices to combat new and known cyber threats and enhance cybersecurity are shared and discussed. The topics of interest related to the workshop include, but are not limited to: - Analysis of the role and the impact of misinformation on online platforms - Analysis of the influence of coordinated automated account networks in online communities - Study of online debates to identify segregation, hate speech, and extreme polarization - Machine learning and artificial intelligence for big data analysis to find criminal patterns - Machine learning and artificial intelligence to bypass captchas - Big data blockchain analysis and bitcoin laundering - Blockchain and network analysis - Big data for criminal network analysis - Best practices in the field of cyber threat intelligence - The societal impact of criminal behavior - Big data analysis of user behaviors in Dark Web marketplaces - Trend analysis of drug use and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) - Explainable Artificial Intelligence (AI) for use in prosecution - Resilient Internet of Things (IoT) - Big data analysis of criminal behavior in social media - Big data analysis of social media privacy and security - Fraud techniques in the Covid-era |
