ICMAI 2011: Music and Artificial Intelligence

First Call For Papers

Extended abstract deadline: 10th January


Following the two previous successful conferences which took place in Edinburgh, Scotland, the third International Conference of Music and AI will take place in Rethymnon, Crete, Greece, between the 26th and 28th March 2011. This is a small-scale friendly conference with a small number of oral presentations and adequate time for discussions and other activities. We encourage submissions on all aspects of music involving Artificial Intelligence techniques and methodologies, as well as related theoretical issues. The special theme this year is Computational Analysis of Folk Music. The goal of the conference is to bring together researchers who are using AI for music theory, analysis, models and applications, providing the opportunity to promote, present and discuss ongoing work in the area. The conference is organised jointly by the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Athens, and is partially sponsored by the John S. Latsis Public Foundation.

Submissions of extended abstracts on all aspects of Music and AI are welcome. They must be in English, 2 pages formatted according to the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence guidelines. Contributions must be in PDF format and uploaded to the ICMAI easychair website http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icmai20110, indicating whether they are intended for oral or poster presentation. Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by at least three members of the scientific committee on the basis of technical and theoretical quality, originality, relevance, significance, and clarity. Accepted extended abstracts will be published in the booklet of abstracts for the conference. There is also a date for optional full-paper submissions of accepted abstracts, to be included in the conference proceedings. Selected papers will be invited for a post-conference publication in a special issue of the Journal of Analytical Approaches to World Music. We are also in negitioation for another selected paper special issue by the Journal of Interdisciplinary Music Studies, provided papers fit with the Journal's rules and guidelines.
