Call For Papers

--- DCCS 2023 - CALL FOR PAPERS ---

For more information, see https://www.dccs2023.com

In industry 4.0 era, software applications, such as cyber-physical systems (CPS), server systems, machine learning-based systems, databased systems, and real-time systems, are playing an increasingly important role in both industrial world and our daily lives. These systems tend to be composed of many different components which may interact with each other and exhibit complex behaviors. Also, in these systems, dependability is critical, as failures or requirement violations of these systems may lead to disruptive results, even the loss of human lives. Nowadays, extensive studies, including both formal methods and engineering techniques, have been conducted, aiming to improve the systems’ safety, reliability, maintainability, availability, etc. However, for complex systems, the gap between the huge number of interacting components and the salability of current approaches still exists. Nevertheless, we believe the demand of dependable complex systems motivates the development of novel techniques or feasible adaptations of existing techniques, through addressing more issues such as components’ interactions or real-time scheduling.

DCCS seeks to provide an international venue to discuss the advanced discoveries and emerging trends related to the dependability of complex systems in both the academic society and industrial world. This workshop will not only explore how we can apply the emerging dependability theories and techniques to model and evaluate the complex systems, but also the methods or tools for localizing and fixing the system vulnerabilities to improve the system dependability.

DCCS 2023 is organized in conjunction with the 34th IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering (ISSRE 2023) in Florence, Italy, on October 9 - 12, 2023.

--- TOPICS OF INTEREST ---

This call for papers addresses all researchers and practitioners with an interest about dependability and fault tolerance of complex systems. Topics addressed in the workshop include but are not limited to:
· Software and hardware reliability.
· Software aging and rejuvenation.
· Software testing, verification, and validation.
· Techniques and approaches for safety-critical systems.
· Dependability measurement, modeling, evalua-tion, and tools.
· Dependability techniques and methodologies for complex systems.
· Dependable systems design.
· Self-healing, self-protecting, and self-adaptive systems.
· Fault-tolerant techniques.
· Quality assurance in server systems, cyber-physical systems, learning-based systems, etc.
· Internet of things (IoT) architectures, protocols, security and privacy.
· Modeling and simulation of complex systems.
· Analysis of software faults/bugs, errors, and fail-ures.
· Fault localization for complex bugs.
· Repairing and re-engineering for complex sys-tems.
· Studies on non-deterministic bugs, aging-related bugs, etc.
· Analytical, empirical, and experimental studies of any of the above topics.

--- IMPORTANT DATES ---

The important dates for the workshop will be aligned with the important dates of the main conference. The indicative periods for the deadlines are:
· Paper submission due: July 31th, 2023
· Author notification: August 18th, 2023
· Camera-ready papers due: August 25th, 2023
· Workshop dates: A half-day or full-day within October 9-12, 2023

--- SUBMISSION ---

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished research papers as well as industrial practice papers. Simultaneous submissions to other conferences are not permitted.

Papers should be written in English and conform to IEEE authoring guidelines. The length of a camera-ready paper will be limited to seven pages, including figures, references, and appendices.

All submissions should be in PDF format and each submission will be reviewed by the program committee members. Paper selection is based on originality, technical contribution, presentation quality, and relevance to the workshop. At least one of the authors of each accepted paper is required to pay a full registration fee and present the paper at the workshop.

--- CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS & SCI JOURNAL PUBLICATION ---

The main conference proceedings will be published by the IEEE Conference Publishing Services (CPS). Papers presented at the workshop will also be submitted for inclusion into the IEEE Xplore and to all of the A&I (abstracting and indexing) partners (such as the Ei Compendex and DBLP). Authors of top-quality papers will be invited to submit their extended versions to a special issue of a selected SCI journal.
