*** Important Dates ***
Submission deadline: May 15th, 2023 Notification of acceptance: July 7th, 2023 Camera Ready: July 18th, 2023 *** Description *** Narrative plays a central role in communication, comprehension, personality formation and memory of every human being. Interactive digital narrative (IDN) adds computational methods to this basic human cognitive function. Computational systems provide a range of procedural functions which allow it to contain dynamic relationships, show the result of many choices and predict particular outcomes. The combination of interactive computational with a narrative approach yields IDN which have the potential to act as representations of complex topics with societal relevance such as global warming and the related energy transition, migration, pandemics, global conflicts, but also personal aspects such as mental health. Taking advantage of both the benefits of narrative and of computation, prosocial interactive digital narratives aim at promoting prosocial behavior by representing complex issues and making them better understandable, but also by offering a safe space for practicing actions and experiencing consequences before applying them in the real world. Developing a deeper and more widespread understanding of the ever-growing complexity of today’s world is crucial as a basis for prosocial discourse, decision-making and concrete actions. We invite submissions of research papers, practice-based papers, and position papers for the GoodIT Special Track on Prosocial Interactive Digital Narratives. We consider all contributions, but we are particularly interested in papers that explore the following topics: - Designing and evaluating prosocial interactive digital narratives - Technical approaches (e.g. planner systems. AI-based characters, generative approaches, NLP, XR (VR, AR,MR) technologies, etc.) - Conceptual frameworks for understanding prosocial behavior in digital narratives - The role of emotions, immersion, and identification in promoting prosocial behavior through interactive digital narratives - Applications of prosocial digital narratives in education, health, and social change contexts - Ethical issues related to designing and implementing prosocial digital narratives - Case studies and best practices for creating effective prosocial digital narratives We welcome submissions from scholars, researchers, practitioners, and designers working in fields such as computer science, media studies, psychology, communication, education, health, and game studies. *** Submission Guidelines *** Submit via EasyChair. Information on submission can be found here: http://goodit.campusfc.unibo.it/submission-of-papers/ The papers should stay between eight (8) and twelve (12) single-column pages, excluding references, in the new ACM format. Papers with a length disproportionate to their contribution will likely be rejected. Accepted papers will be included in the ACM Digital Library. Selected papers will be invited to submit an extended version to journal special issues. *** Further information *** https://indcor.eu/prosocial-interactive-digital-narratives/ Please contact the chairs in case of questions: Hartmut Koenitz - hkoenitz@gmail.com Mattia Bellini - mattia.bellini@ut.ee Frank Nack - nack@uva.nl Lissa Holloway-Attaway - lissa.holloway-attaway@his.se |
