“Standing on the world’s summit, we launch once more our challenge to the stars!”
— Futurist Manifesto, 1909 ————————————————————————— Over a century after the publication of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’s Futurist Manifesto (1909), his call to transcend boundaries continues to resonate strongly. Today’s fu-tourists have no intention of destroying museums or libraries, nor do they claim that a roaring car surpasses the beauty of the Nike of Samothrace. Yet, much like their avant-garde predecessors, they remain fascinated by speed, technology, and unrestrained mobility. Contemporary tourism is increasingly venturing into spaces that the Futurists could only imagine: digital, cosmic, and hybrid realms. Behind this fascination, however, lies a sense of unease, prompting questions about the limits of experience, authenticity, and humanity itself. Referring to Daniel J. Boorstin, it is worth asking: are we truly at the end of ars apodemica—the classical art of travel devoted to reflection and personal wisdom? Or, conversely, has the era of new technologies, emerging amid multiple crises, enabled contemporary travellers to transcend the traditional boundaries of place and time and redefine the very meaning of travel Keynote Speakers: Takamitsu Jimura (Musashi University) Jovana Janinović (University of Montenegro) Jonathan Skinner (University of Surrey) We invite submissions from scholars working in tourism, mobility, and travel studies, particularly those engaging with humanities and social science perspectives, as well as interdisciplinary approaches.
