The therapeutic connection between music, sound and the mind is a promising but extremely complex subject. This international trans-disciplinary symposium seeks to create a bridge across the borders of professional and academic specialty. Drawing from the worlds of archaeoacoustics, music anthropology, neuroscience and psychology, the symposium explores the vast potential of audio neural stimulation therapy as a non-invasive drug-free alternative in the treatment of some of the 21st century's greatest challenges in mental health. Substance addiction and depression head a list of disorders and ailments that are affected in the cerebral cortex and are subject to response to factors of music and sound.
To make use of the enormous promise of using music for improving mental health, we must first understand the effect of sound. The Foundations of Music and Sound Therapy for Recovery symposium welcomes contributions from researchers, scholars, therapists and technologists working across diverse disciplines, sites and practices.
