Call For Papers

Mid-America Theatre Conference (MATC) will be holding its 43rd Annual Meeting at the Minneapolis Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, MN on March 9 through 12, 2023!

We are seeking proposals for paper and co-paper presentations, round-table discussions, organized panels, workshops, performances, and hybrid presentations that can be linked to the theme IMPOSSIBLE THEATRE broadly construed, from the perspective of historians, scholars, teachers, producers, directors, actors, playwrights, choreographers, movement specialists, scenographers, technicians, designers, dramaturgs, stage managers, and spectators.

Proposals might engage:

Histories of impossible theatres—real, theorized, hoped for
Plays set in impossible places; with impossible characters, and that are impossible to produce
Impossible pedagogies: before, during, and after COVID
Technologies and methods that make the impossible possible
We are especially interested in submissions from first-time MATC submitters, early career scholars, international scholars, scholars of the global majority, graduate students, and non-academic practitioners!

See below — or visit the MATC website at http://matc.us — to find individual calls for papers for the all-conference papers, pedagogy symposium, playwriting symposium, practice/production symposium, theatre history symposium, articles-in-progress and pitch-your-book workshops, and emerging scholars panels.
