ACL/HLT 2011 Student Session

** Submission deadline: January 28th, 2011 **

General Invitation for Submissions

The ACL Student Session provides a venue for student researchers
investigating topics in
Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing to present
their research, meet
potential advisors, and receive feedback from the international
research community.

The Student Session's goal is to aid students at multiple stages of
their education,
though it is particularly well suited for those in their first years
of graduate school
or their final year of undergraduate training. Towards this goal, we
invite papers in two
separate categories.

1. Thesis Proposals: This category is appropriate for experienced
students who wish to
get feedback on their proposal and strengthen their final work.
2. Research Papers: Most appropriate for students new to academic
conferences. Papers
in this category can describe completed work, or work in progress with
preliminary
results.

We hope that the different types of submissions will promote greater
interaction between
students at different stages in their research.

Each accepted paper will be assigned an established researcher as a
mentor, who will
provide feedback on the work to the student at the conference.

Submission Requirements

Thesis Proposals may contain previously published work and must
include specific research
directions. Proposals may only have one author, who must be a student.

Research Papers must describe original completed work or work in
progress and should
clearly indicate directions for future research wherever appropriate.
All authors of
multi-author papers MUST be students. Papers submitted for this
session are eligible only
if they have not been presented at any other meeting with publicly
available published
proceedings. Students who have already presented at an ACL/EACL/NAACL
Student Research
Workshop may not submit a research paper to this session. They should
instead submit
their papers either to the main conference or to the thesis proposals
track. It must be
indicated if a paper has been submitted to another conference or workshop.

Submission Format

Both paper and proposal submissions to the Student Session should
follow the standard
two-column format of the ACL 2011 proceedings. Submissions should have
no more than
four(4) pages of content plus one(1) additional page for references.
LaTeX and Microsoft
Word style files are available on the conference website under
Information for Authors.
Submissions must conform to the official ACL 2011 style guidelines and
they must be
submitted in PDF.
