Call For Papers

The University of Hawai`i at Manoa Philosophy Department is calling for papers for its annual Uehiro Graduate Student Conference “The Benefit of the Doubt: Skepticism, Epistemic and Moral”. We invite graduate students working in all areas of philosophy to submit papers on the conference theme. We welcome interdisciplinary submissions, and we strongly encourage submissions from members of underrepresented groups. The conference will take place in person. Participants will be provided with lodging at Lincoln Hall for three nights during the conference. No airfare funding is available at this time. The conference is free and open to the public.

We are honored to have Dr. Hans-Georg Moeller (Macau University), Dr. Karen Jones (University of Melbourne), and Dr. Tamara Albertini (University of Hawaii-Manoa) as our keynote speakers for this year’s conference.

Papers should explore skepticism in its many permutations (not only epistemic) and deal with questions around that theme. We welcome papers from all philosophical fields and traditions.

Presentations should not exceed twenty (20) minutes in length, and students will be allotted another ten (10) minutes for questions. Paper submissions should not exceed 4000 words. Abstracts are also welcome and should not exceed 300 words. Preference will be given to full papers over abstracts. Submissions should be prepared for blind review (no identifying information on the document itself). The deadline for submissions is December 15, 2023, and presenters will be notified of our decision by early January.

Send papers as a PDF file prepared for blind review to uehirogradpc@gmail.com. In the body of the e-mail please include: 1) Your name, 2) Title of the paper, 3) Institutional affiliation, 4) Contact information (e-mail, phone, or mailing address).
