Introduction

Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly while creating growing demands for electricity, water, semiconductor materials, and computing infrastructure. A new paradigm is needed to make AI more energy- and resource-efficient while protecting Earth’s environment. The human brain provides a compelling model: it supports perception, learning, memory, and reasoning within an energy budget of approximately 20 watts.

Brain-Inspired Green AI (BiGAI) explores how principles from biological intelligence can guide the development of next-generation AI that is dramatically more efficient, sustainable, safe, and human-centered. The workshop brings together research spanning neuromorphic computing, emerging hardware, biological and hybrid computing, sustainable infrastructure, and responsible AI governance. Its long-term vision is to create intelligent systems that learn and compute with radically lower energy and resource requirements while preserving human agency, biological safety, and environmental responsibility.
