FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS
The Białystok-Kiev series of conferences on theoretical and applied linguistics, co-organized by the University of Białystok and the Borys Grinchenko Kiev University, was launched in 2017. The main goal of the initiative is to contribute significantly to the study of language in connection with the constant changes occurring in today’s world. The organizers’ aim is to focus on various dimensions of linguistics as related to a large number of disciplines within the humanities, the social sciences, and the arts.
We are pleased to extend the first call for papers for the 4th Białystok-Kiev Conference on Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, which will be held at the University of Białystok, Poland, 2-3 December 2021.

The conference is intended as a platform for scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds, particularly in relation to various research areas connected with language, including cognitive linguistics, socio- and psycholinguistics,contrastive linguistics, cultural linguistics, discourse analysis, language acquisition and learning,lexicology and lexicography, specialist languages in use and translation, terminology and terminography, and translation studies. The conference is intended to explore both empirical and theoretical findings in linguistic research as well as their pedagogical application.

The special theme of the conference this year, Language in Context: Perspectives from Linguistics, Translation Studies, and Language Education, aims to focus the attention of all scholars exploring language on its communicative meaning and the scope of its nature. Our goal is to concentrate, inter alia, on how meaning is constructed in different types of discourse, how context influences language use, how language might be influenced by human cognition, and how all of these elements relate to the shaping of human identity. We would also like to concentrate on the extent to which the context of language impacts natural language processing, language understanding, and language interpretation. In analysing these issues, we would like to combine a wide array of perspectives, including but not limited tocognitive linguistics, anthropolinguistics, biolinguistics, biosemiotics, computational linguistics, clinical linguistics, ecological linguistics, forensic linguistics, neurolinguistics, posthumanist applied linguistics, socio- and psycholinguistics, discourse analysis, cognitive translatology, ecotranslatology, as well as terminology and terminography.
Possible sub-themes include but are not limited to the following subject areas:

– applied cognitive linguistics,
– cognitive translatology,
– constructional and embodied approach to grammar,
– interlinguistic and intercultural pragmatics,
– issues in first and second language learning,
– language and cognition,
– language and identity,
– language and situatedness,
– language processing and language acquisition,
– terminology and terminography, and
– the newest trends in foreign language teaching.

Proposals in other relevant research areas are also welcome.

Selected papers will be published in Studies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric (indexed in Scopus), and Crossroads. A Journal of English Studies, which is a ranked journal linked to the Faculty of Philology, University of Białystok.

The conference will be conducted as a hybrid event. In September 2021, every participant will be prompted to decide whether they want to deliver their paper online or in person at the venue (Książnica Podlaska im. Łukasza Górnickiego w Białymstoku, ul. M. Skłodowskiej-Curie 14A, 15-001 Białystok, POLAND).

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:
• All proposals must be original and previously unpublished. Please include an abstract as an attachment (as a .doc/.docx file). The time allocated for each presentation is 20 minutes, with a further 10 minutes allowed for discussion.

Conference fee:
• 400 PLN/120 EUR (the fee covers conference materials, publication of proceedings, coffee breaks, and a gala dinner)
