Overview of special issue

Because of the increasing complexity of current socio-economic activities, it is hard to use crisp values for expressing events or objects in various real applications. The fuzzy sets that were proposed by Zadeh are an important tool to express uncertain and fuzzy information. It has many applications in various fields, such as control systems, transport systems, and IoT systems. Nevertheless, in the fuzzy sets, only one kind of information, namely the degree of membership, is contained. It cannot be used to express the opposition, neutrality, and hesitant information. In recent years, various fuzzy sets have been proposed in recent years, such as intuitionistic fuzzy sets, Pythagorean fuzzy sets, picture fuzzy sets, and spherical fuzzy sets. They have attracted much attention from researchers. However, researchers mainly focus on proposing and developing multicriteria/multiattribute decision making methods for various fuzzy sets. Few of the existing studies show reports on the real life applications of these fuzzy sets, especially for picture fuzzy sets and spherical fuzzy sets.

This special issue calls for original and high-quality research papers that report the real life applications of generalized fuzzy sets, such as medical decision system, transport system, IoT, and cloud computing.
