Call For Papers

A shift from the traditional classroom based education (including K12, higher education, and professional training) to a new virtual or hybrid model seems inevitable and possibly urgent, as evidenced by the CoVid-19 pandemic. While lectures may be easily delivered online, how to effectively realize other essential components of education, such as other classroom-based activities (e.g., exams, labs) and more advanced functions (such as socialization, citizenship), in a large scale presents a new challenge to researchers, teachers, and students.

We hope the challenge can eventually turn into an opportunity, with a marriage of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and education. Artificial Intelligence for Virtual Education (ai4ve 2020) is an international forum for academia (teachers, researchers) and industries to exchange visions and ideas of the paradigm shift. The conference is calling for presentations that address the theorectical and technical aspects of applying artificial intelligence to virtual education. Some examples include:

- Virtual proctoring
- Virtual labs
- AI for exams and grading
- Personalized learning
- Computational agents
- Semantic computing
- Computational tutors
- Immersive learning
- Virtul and augmented reality
- Machine learning
- Platforms and systems
- Curriculum and assessment
- Humanized computing and communication, including computer vision and NLP
- Automatic problem solving
- Educational games
- Collaborative problem solving and communities

To substantiate the theme, the track will be carried out virtually, at a special registration rate of USD$150 (for authors) and USD$75 (for general attendees). The track will be held quarterly from 2020:

ai4ve 2020 summer: July 24, 2020
ai4ve 2020 fall: September 22, 2020 (co-located with ai4i-2020)
ai4ve 2020 winter:: December 7, 2020
(ai4ve 2021 spring):: March 23, 2021

Authors are invited to submit a 2-page research summary or vision statement in double-column IEEE format to ai4i@uci.edu (please include 'ai4ve 2020 summer/fall/winter submission' as the subject). Manuscripts must be written in English and follow the instructions in the IEEE Manuscript Formatting and Templates guidelines. Distinguished quality presentations at the conference will be invited to be extended for publication in the post-conference proceedings (to be submitted to the IEEE Xplore® and/or IEEE Computer Society Press digital library) and internationally renowned journals.
