Blockchain is a consensus-based distributed system, combined with technologies such as smart contract, cryptography, hashing, Merkle tree, etc. Together, they build a new generation of transactional applications that establish trust, accountability, provenance, and transparency at their core, while streamlining business processes and legal constraints in cross-organizational collaboration. There are still many issues that need to be addressed specifically in terms of scalability, security, privacy, efficiency, availability, and dependability which bring complicated challenges and many open issues for the research community. This special section, which is expected to be published in 2022.2 will provide a venue for world-class researchers to gather and share their research achievements, emerging ideas, and trends in the highly challenging research fields. This special section in IEICE Transaction will receive independent submissions as well as the extended papers from the following BlockchainSys 2020 workshop and three international conferences, focusing on the theme of this special section:

3. Submission
Please follow the steps for the submission:
(1). Submit through webpage “https://review.ieice.org/regist/regist_baseinfo_e.aspx”. Please select “[Special-BC] Blockchain Systems and Applications” under “Journal/Section”. Do not select [Regular-ED].
(2). “Copyright Transfer and Page Charge Agreement” is required during the submission.

5. Payment Notification: 2021.10
6. Payment Deadline: 2021.11.15
7. Notification
Acceptance or rejection of the submitted papers or letters will be notified to the authors before the middle of October 2021. Please note that if accepted, all authors, including authors of invited papers, will be requested to pay for the page charges covering the partial cost of publication. (1) Upon acceptance for publication, all authors, including authors of invited papers, should pay the page charges covering the partial cost of publication around October 2021. If payment is not completed by 15 November 2021 your manuscript will be handled as rejection.
(2) At least one of the authors is required to be a member of IEICE. The submission will be rejected if the condition is not satisfied.
