We invite scholars to submit papers and attend the conference on the subject of Economies in Transition. We encourage authors to explore questions including (but not limited to):

1) Criticism of State Socialism – Still Relevant?

State socialism: remnants or resurrection? A comparative perspective.
(transition and advanced economies; different trajectories of transition; signs of reversive transition; role of the state; populism and protectionism; environmentalism and anti-capitalism; fiscal and monetary policies; structural reforms; property rights enforcement and the rule of law)

European Union: accession and integration policies.
(the legal framework; decision-making rules; conditional transfers; sustainable immigration and welfare)

Political competition and economic
(public versus private sector in health and education policies; regulation – too much, too little or bad regulation? socialist conceptions of the role of state in the democracy)

2) Business Environment and Corruption in Transition Economies

Business environment, market drivers and ethics
(market frameworks; formal and informal practices; corruption; competition; digital economy; institutional upgrading; expertise and integrity of the judiciary; privacy and personal data protection; trade openness and foreign direct investment;)

Legacy or not
(institutional traps that are not legacy of the past but have emerged from the transition process itself; business elites and top management teams; clandestine networks; government sponsored crime; role of trade unions).

Submitted papers must not have been previously published nor be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed through a peer review process.

The Faculty of Law and Business Studies will publish the papers given at the Conference in its scientific journal Res Novae. High quality papers will be considered for publication in Post-Communist Economies. At least one author of the abstract or a paper should participate at the conference and present the research within the conference programme. Conference participants are not obliged to publish their paper(s) in the Conference proceedings.

Notes for Prospective Authors
All abstracts/papers must be submitted in English in PDF format. The submission should be sent as PDF attachment by email to the main Conference email address: papers@transition.si or submitted through the online form.

The name of the file must consist of the first/main author’s surname and the research stream the paper belongs to (as listed in this Call – f.i. “Kovac_The role of values and rhetoric on the path to market economy”)The following document(s)o documents should be submitted. The first document should include:

Title of the paper
Author’s name, surname, university/institution, faculty/department, postal address, city, country, telephone, email. Corresponding author should be indicated
Abstract (min. 100 – max. 200 words, up to 400 words is permitted for authors that intend to submit abstract only)
Keywords and JEL codes
The second document (for full paper authors only) should be fully anonymized and should include:

Title of the paper
Abstract (min. 100 – max. 200 words)
Keywords and JEL codes
Full paper min. 3500 – max. 8000 words, including references and tables

Awards for the Best Paper and the Best Presentation
The Programme Committee Members will select the four best papers submitted to the conference. Taken into consideration will be relevance to the scope of the conference, together with the scientific contribution and innovativeness of the paper.

The first prize will be €400 and prizes of €200 each for three runners-up.

In addition, there will be an award for the most outstanding presentation during the conference. The impact of the presentation will be considered and whether the speaker is inspiring and authoritative.

Publishing Opportunities
All abstracts will be included in the Book of Abstracts.
All papers will be privately distributed among conference participants.
Conference Proceedings with ISBN will be published as a special issue of the Catholic Institute scientific journal Res Novae. Authors can choose to have their paper included in the proceedings.
Post-Communist Economies will consider conference papers for publication. Selected papers need to be extended and adapted according to the journal’s requirements.
