Call For Papers

Electrical distribution grids are required to deliver an increasingly more efficient and reliable supply of electricity to customers while supporting also a higher penetration of renewable energy resources. This increased penetration of renewable energy resources as well as novel prosumers like electric vehicles represent challenges for the reliability of the grid. On the other hand, the increase of available digital data through measurement devices in the grid and at customer connections (Smart Meters and grid connected inverters) facilitates novel planning and operation processes. For this purpose, Distribution System Operators (DSOs) need to implement intelligent solutions capable of guaranteeing a high level of resilience to their systems by offering new functionalities, e.g., fast identification, localization, and diagnosis of grid anomalies and faults. These functionalities allow a more effective and successful management of electricity distribution, however, they also introduce a level of interdependence between the ICT infrastructure and the electricity grid, as well as potential cyber-security vulnerabilities.

The purpose of this workshop is to investigate aspects related to the ICT-based management of failures, including cyber-security aspects, the ability to quantify the quality of the data collected from the measurement and actuation sub-systems deployed in the field, in order to make an appropriate diagnosis and detection. Moreover, the workshop provides a forum for researchers and engineers in academia and industry for discussing and analyzing current solutions and approaches, research results, experiences, and products in the field of dependable intelligent electricity grids. The ultimate goal is to present the advancement on the state of art in this domain and facilitating the adoption of resilience solutions by the distribution system operators.

The list of relevant topics includes (but is not limited to):

- Dependable ICT solutions for intelligent electricity distribution grids
- ICT assisted grid fault management (detection, localization, diagnosis)
- ICT faults and their impact on grid operation
- Quantifications of data quality and of the impact of data inaccuracies on applications
- Security Threats and vulnerabilities management for digital distribution grid operation and planning
- Smart grid cyber security challenges
- Fault, attack and anomaly detection in electricity distribution grids
- Interdependencies between ICT and Electrical grid infrastructures
