Call For Papers

The 14th BTW conference on "Database Systems for Business, Technology, and Web" (BTW 2011) of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) will take place from February 28th to March 4th, 2011 at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Thanks to its universities and research institutions, Kaiserslautern has developed into a competence center for innovative technologies and services. The University of Kaiserslautern has made a substantial contribution to this development since its foundation 40 years ago. In addition to its computer science department, many advances in information technology were also driven by the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE), the Institute for Technical and Business Mathematics (ITWM), and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The recent establishment of the Max-Planck-Institute for Software Systems has further highlighted its importance as an international science city.

Over 25 years, the BTW conference has been the central forum of the German database community. At this bi-annual conference, not only scientists but also practitioners and users exchange information on many topics of database and information technology.

Just as the properties of data being managed has changed, the techniques for data management and processing have also changed and adapted themselves to the new challenges. In addition to the treatment of structured data in past years, semi- or unstructured data gained more and more attention. Classic centralized database system architectures have been extended and partially replaced by main-memory-based, distributed, parallel, or open systems. New hardware technologies are playing an increasingly important role: these include mobile systems, multi-core systems, graphics cards or special storage media such as flash memory. These techniques are reflected in the current topics of interest: information integration, data analysis, ontologies and Semantic Web, data processing, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, virtualization
technologies, energy efficiency, and many more.

Following its good tradition, BTW 2011 includes both a scientific and an industrial program, a student program, various workshops, and database tutorials on hot topics.

For the scientific program, contributions on the development of technologies for database and information systems, their theory, and their interaction with applications and related areas are invited.

Articles on the commercial use of database and information system technologies, experiences and current industrial trends are invited for the industrial program. The industrial papers can be enriched by system demonstrations.

As with previous BTW conferences, both full papers (original contributions or surveys) and short papers (about recent projects and preliminary results of ongoing research), as well as system demonstrations (esp. for contributions in the industrial program) are welcome.

Furthermore, the best dissertations of the last two years in the BTW topics of interest will be honored at the conference. Recommendations for this award are invited.

Submission Details: German or English contributions to the scientific program or the industrial program are to be submitted electronically in PDF format. Papers must be formatted in the proposed layout for the conference proceedings (Lecture Notes in Informatics, details will be announced at www.btw2011.de).
Full papers may be up to 20 pages, short papers up to 10 pages. Papers beyond the page limit will not be reviewed. Selected papers will be invited for a special issue of the journal "Computer Science - Research and Development" (Springer).
