Call For Papers

Call for Chapters for a book to be published by Springer:

Human Factors in Augmented Reality Environments

Edited by Tony Huang, Leila Alem and Mark Livingston.

Introduction

The use of AR technologies in various application systems has expanded rapidly in recent years. However, our understanding of this emerging technology in affecting humans socially, psychologically and physically is still limited. AR also poses unique challenges in system design and evaluation. Theories, design principles and evaluation methods specific to this emerging area are needed to keep up with of the advance in technologies of AR.

Very few quality books can be found addressing this subject specifically. This book aims to cover current state-of-the-art of research results and future directions in design and evaluation of AR systems. This book is an edited volume contributed by leading international experts in this field.

This volume includes surveys, theoretic discussions, design principles, evaluation methods, case studies and more. Applications of AR systems and human factors related to use of those systems are covered in this book as well. Research results from virtual/mixed reality (VR/MR) are also included when they are useful for AR.

Academics, students, engineers and consultants will find this book useful for both research and engineering purposes in this emerging area.

Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

Part I: Introduction and Surveys

Introduction to augmented reality (AR) systems
Introduction to usability studies and evaluation methods
Survey of AR/VR/MR systems and their applications
Survey of design principles and evaluation methods for AR/VR/MR systems
Traditional and novel methods for evaluating AR/VR/MR systems from user-centric perspectives
Changes and future challenges for human centered AR/VR/MR systems.....

Part II: Evaluation Techniques and Case studies

Human factors in AR/VR/MR systems
Evaluation methods and metrics
Taxonomies of tasks
HCI theories and design principles for AR/VR/MR systems
Design theories and evaluation frameworks for AR/VR/MR systems
Case studies and evaluations of AR interfaces, systems and applications
Lessons learned and experience obtained from designing, developing, deploying or evaluating AR/VR/MR systems.....

Part III: Interfaces, Models, Prototypes, Systems and Applications (how human factors issues are addressed should be mentioned)

AR/VR/MR systems in Engineering
AR/VR/MR systems in CSCL
AR/VR/MR systems in Mining industry
