Call For Papers

The COSIT conference series focuses on innovation in spatial information theory across the disciplines. It caters to researchers in such fields as cognition, psychology, linguistics, anthropology, geography, planning, computer science, artificial intelligence, and mathematics who are concerned with models of space and time.

Of particular interest are perspectives that extend through multiple domains or those that leverage established methods common in one field so that new insights about space are gained in another field or discipline.

2011 marks the 10th time that COSIT convenes biennially. The 2011 conference will be held at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, Maine. Late September is an excellent time to enjoy the stunning beauty of Maine's coast as well as the culinary delights of lobsters, clams, chowder, and blueberry pie.

Previous COSIT proceedings (published as Lecture Notes in Computer Science Volumes 716, 988, 1329, 1661, 2205, 2825, 3693, 4736, and 5756) capture the progress over the years, and provide prospective authors with an appreciation of the types of work COSIT community is typically engaged in. Typical interests of the COSIT community include, but are not limited to, the following topics; however, novel work that extends beyond the traditional approaches or involves new communities interested in space is particularly sought after.

activity-based models of spatial knowledge
cognitive structure of spatial knowledge
cooperative work with spatial information
events and processes in geographic space
incomplete or imprecise spatial knowledge
languages of spatial relations
naive geography/behavioral geography
navigation by organisms and robots
ontology of space
presentation/communication of spatial information
quality issues in geographic information
semantics of geographic information
social and cultural organization of space
spatial and temporal reasoning
spatial and social networks
spatial data integration/interoperability
spatial decision-support systems
structure of geographic information
time in geographic information
user-interface design/spatialization of interfaces
virtual spaces
Authors are encouraged to submit full papers of approximately 5000 words (up to 20 pages formatted according to the instructions), formatted in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science style.

All COSIT submissions will be fully refereed by members of the program committee, who will be asked to write substantial appraisals analyzing the submissions' relevance to the conference, their intellectual merit, their scientific significance, novelty, relation to previously published literature, and clarity of presentation. Accepted papers will be published in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.
