Call For Papers

The faculty of Management, Economics and Sciences of Lille Catholic University organises its second conference on Smart and Sustainable Cities on July 12th, 2019. The theme of the conference is Smart Buildings in Smart cities. It will be an excellent opportunity for academics, practitioners, enterprises and public institutions to meet and interact. We invite contributions on the challenges and promises of Smart Buildings.
Urbanization as well as the social and environmental challenges it engenders, invite looking for solutions to reduce our carbon footprint in towns and cities, to enhance social inclusion and reduce inequalities. Globalization has led to cities competing over attracting talent and developing initiatives that add value. Enterprises seeking new opportunities have been rapid to identify the market opportunities that cities represent and bring innovative solutions in developing a vision on smart and sustainable cities.
On a smaller scale, smart buildings offer new connected services that can contribute to reducing our use of natural resources (such as energy or water), which can draw on collective intelligence to co-create innovative solutions. This has led to the emerge of new domains of research scrutinizing questions on incentives for pro-social behaviors, the acceptability of new technologies by their users, security and the protection of personal data. We welcome all contributions on the promises and challenges of smart buildings and smart cities. The organizing committee will give particular attention to the following questions:
What type of data should be collected and for what added value? What are the promises and possible domino effects of smart and sustainable cities initiatives? What is the role played by positive energy buildings, urban farming, enterprise incubators, Living Labs, co-creation spaces or B-Corporations? What role do territories’ characteristics and local policies play in the success of these initiatives? What are the synergies between smart buildings and mobility, biodiversity, work, service provision and the creation of economic, environmental and social value? How can smart buildings affect management in enterprises? What is the user acceptance of smart buildings? What are promises and paradoxes of sharing economy and service functionality economy, circular economy? What are conditions for a resilient city?
The organizers encourage submissions that cover the following areas, without being exhaustive:
• Sensitization of users to the challenges of smart buildings
• Pro-social and environmental behaviors in smart buildings
• Office real estate and sustainable cities
• Smart entreprises
• Internet of things and wireless networks for data collection
• Artificial Intelligence applied to smart buildings/Cities
• Ecology and urban agriculture, revegetation of buildings
• Sustainable City and Inclusive Territories
• Demonstrator buildings and Living Labs
• Technology acceptance and adoption
• Management control and reporting related to smart buildings and smart cities initiatives

We invite contributions from various theoretical and disciplinary fields such as economics, management, information technologies, engineering, and other domains in both social sciences and natural sciences. As the conference aims to be inclusive for all, we welcome contributions from a wide range of actors such as academics, students, consultants, or practitioners.
The Haut-de-France region has been involved since 2013 in the Rev3 programme (the Third Industrial Revolution) and is following up more than 1,600 projects, with several urban projects: 14 Rev3 territories, smart networks, sharing economy, digital economy, soft mobility. Lille Catholic University is an integral partner of this with a strong engagement though its Live Tree programme. The Lille metropolitan area has also launched projects related to smart cities (three cities of Lille metropole have committed to a smart city approach, open data MEL, digital portal, smart grids with So MEL so Connected).
We welcome papers for thematic sessions, posters as well as a panel proposals. The best contribution may be considered for an edited volume. We also value presentations of innovative urban experiences.
Abstracts must be submitted through in English or in French: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=s2c0
