!!UPDATE!! The workshop proceedings will be published as a Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) volume! CALL FOR PAPERS https://drive.google.com/open?id=1NmLYyoPXmKWDDnIT_F_sQzpOK9kE1efi WORKSHOP WEBSITE https://sites.google.com/view/rssds2019/home ABOUT THE RESEARCH SCHOOL The collection and examination of data has become widespread in its presence and impact to everyday life. It is therefore important to gain a better understand of data and the ways in which we can interact with data in order to positively effect the world around us. Statistics and data science, as well as allied fields such as artificial intelligence, data mining, econometrics, neural networks, machine learning, and signal processing all strive towards the goals of better analysis, appreciation, and interpretation of data, and thus of the modern world. RSSDS2019 is the third of a series of workshop-style gatherings that had previously been held at the University of Caen, as S4D2018 and SBDS2017. The intention of the gathering is to provide a less-formal setting for academics and students to interact and discuss the many applications and focus areas of data analysis and understanding. The workshop also aims to bring together a diverse audience, from different career paths and stages, from different countries, as well as from different walks of life. To this end, the workshop will involve eight engaging tutorial-style lectures from an esteemed and distinct group of speakers, as well as poster sessions that showcase the many exciting contributions of the workshop attendants. This year, the research school will be held at the Institute for Advance Study, at La Trobe University. The event will run all day, on the 24th–26th of July, 2019. Morning and afternoon tea will be served in between sessions on each day, and a social gathering will be hosted on the evening of the first day. A workshop dinner will also be hosted on the evening of the second day. The format of the workshop aims to encourage the maximum amount of social interaction between participants as to lead to the highest levels of collaborations and network building for all attendees. SPEAKERS The conference aims to foster communication and collaboration between researchers in statistics and data science, across the spectra of career stages and nationality, and who represent a diverse subset of society. As such, we have organised a broad range of speakers who arise from different backgrounds and who are at different levels of there academic careers. These include the following confirmed presenters: Faicel Chamroukhi (University of Caen, France) Florence Forbes (Inria Grenoble Rhone-Alpes, France) Charles Gray (La Trobe University, Australia) Natalie Karavarsamis (La Trobe University, Australia) Geoffrey McLachlan (University of Queensland, Australia) Hien Nguyen (La Trobe University, Australia) Kai Qin (Swinburne University, Australia) Emi Tanaka (University of Sydney, Australia) POSTER AND PAPER SUBMISSIONS Every presented poster at the workshop must be accompanied by a proceedings paper. The paper will be fully peer reviewed by members of the scientific committee. The poster and paper should be of broad interest to the data analytics and quantitative sciences community and can be applicational or theoretical in nature. Appropriate industry reports will also be considered. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: Bioinformatics Statistics Data Analysis Data Science Data Mining Data Visualisation Machine Learning Neural Networks Probability The workshop proceedings will either be published as a Springer Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) volume. All proceedings papers will be made available to workshop participants, electronically. Additionally, proceedings papers will be archived online, and given individual DOIs after the workshop. The proceedings will be given an ISBN and all papers will be indexed at DBLP, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. Posters will also be archived and made available online, after the conference. Every paper must be accompanied by a registration in order to be included in the proceedings. All submissions must be made before the 31st of May, 2019 (midnight, Melbourne time)! PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS All papers should be prepared using the Springer proceedings template. The paper should be between 10 and 15 pages in the template format, including references, figures and tables, without modification. All submissions are to be made using the submission website.
