Call For Papers

Goals of the Session:

Future 5th generation (5G) networks are expected to enable three key services -enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communications (mMTC), and ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). As per the 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) URLLC requirements, it is expected that the reliability of one transmission of a 32 byte packet will be at least 99.999% and the latency will be at most 1 ms. This unprecedented level of reliability and latency will yield various new applications for numerous vertical industries such as smart grids, industrial automation and intelligent transport systems. These stringent requirements of ultra-high reliability and low latency bring a lot of technical challenges in the field and open a new world of research questions for both academia and industry researchers.
This special session aims at presenting the most relevant scenarios, prominent research outcomes and state-of-the-art advances of 5G related URLLC. Only technical papers describing previously unpublished, original, state-of-the art research, and not currently under review by a conference or a journal will be considered.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Cross-Layer design and performance analysis for low latency applications
Protocol stack redefinition and procedures for low latency communication
Network slicing and network functions virtualization – with focus on low latency
Novel multiple access protocols for URLLC (e.g. grant free transmission, NOMA)
Edge computing and low-complexity algorithms for URLLC
Interference mitigation and management techniques for URLLC
Network infrastructure and core network concepts
Cloud-RAN concepts in the context of URLLC
Architectural enablers for edge\fog computing
Enabling technologies for URLLC: SDN, NFV, Cloud-RAN, D2D
Emerging cellular architectures for distributed and flexible network functions in 5G/B5G
Proof-of-concepts and field trial results related to URLLC use cases
Advanced radio resource management techniques for URLLC
Network infrastructure, core network, cloud and IoT platform considerations for distributed real-time signal processing in URLLC
Low latency industrial control
URLLC in Automotive and Industrial IoT Applications
Standardization activities on URLLC
