Future Generation Computer Science Special Issue: HCI for Smart Data Important Dates January 31, 2014 Paper submission deadline April 1, 2014 Acceptance notification May 1, 2014 Revision submission June 1, 2014 Second notification July 1, 2014 Camera Ready submission Scope and Objective Grid computing allows the processing and distribution of large volumes of data. In many cases, these large datasets will be generated by humans, and will need to be human-readable as well. Over the next years, the increasingly large volumes of data generated by users (through e.g. social computing and sensor networks) will not only require the technology and network infrastructure to process the data, but also to allow humans to understand and use it. These users are not only experts and experienced grid scientists, so it is up to computer science to improve the interaction mechanisms between humans and computers. Therefore, we aim to study how to improve the interaction of humans with all these Big Data produced by Smart Cities, that is, Smart Data. Topics of Interest This special issue calls for original papers describing the latest developments, research, trends, and solutions on Human-Computer Interfaces for supporting Smart Data infrastructures. The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics in focus of this special issue: • Adaptive, adaptable, intelligent user interfaces • Augmented reality • Computer-supported cooperative work • Effects of aging on interacting with computers • End user programming and development • HCI and citizenship • HCI design - methods, tools and perspectives • HCI evaluation methods, tools and perspectives • HCI impacts on society • HCI theories and theoretical approaches • Interacting with information visualizations • Interaction and information processing • Interfaces for mobile and ambient systems • Social interaction • Social computing • Task ad user analysis • Usable privacy and security tools • Usability engineering • Web engineering Paper Submission Prospective authors are invited to submit their papers directly via the FGCS submission web site at http://ees.elsevier.com/fgcs/login.asp (please select the item SI: HCI for Smart Data). Papers submitted to this special issue for possible publication must be original and must not be under consideration for publication in any other journal or conference.
