FIRST CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS



ACI is the main international conference on Animal-Computer Interaction, a rapidly growing field that focuses on the interaction between animals and computing-enabled technology. At the crossroad between interaction design, on the one hand, and animal behavioural and welfare science, on the other, the emerging discipline of ACI focuses on:

· studying and theorizing the interaction between animals and technology in naturalistic settings

· developing user-centered technology to improve animals’ welfare, support animals' activities and foster interspecies relationships

· informing animal-centered approaches that enable animals to participate in the design process as stakeholders and contributors.



This year's conference theme is connectedness & wellbeing. We invite ACI-related contributions from any relevant disciplines, but we particularly welcome contributions that focus on the connection between human and animal, or their (joint) well-being. These may include (but are not limited to):

· support interspecies communication

· improve humans’ understanding of other animals and their needs

· enable humans to take better care of other animals

· support animals in activities they do for humans

· reduce interspecies conflicts and the impact of human activity on animals

· foster ecologically and ethically sustainable forms of interspecies interaction and cohabitation.



We invite the submission of:

· long and short papers (submission deadline 26th August 2018, midnight PST, notification 15th October 2018)

· workshop proposals (submission deadline 26th August 2018, midnight PST, notification 15th September 2018)

· doctoral consortium applications (submission deadline 26th August 2018, midnight PST, notification 15th October 2018)

· video posters and demos (submission deadline 22nd October 2018, midnight PST, notification 15th November 2018 )
