Latin American countries have an urgent need to share, to join efforts and grow together in all aspects, but especially to raise the educational level of our people. Hence the need for active discussion in our context on how to combine the richness of our explorations and visions of learning objects and learning technologies in general, with the construction of a common vision to enable us to make effective use of these tools for education.

Responding to this need, the Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL) in 2006 organized, in Guayaquil, the 1st. Latin American Conference on Learning Objects. This conference served as the seed for the creation of the Latin American Community of Learning Objects (LACLO). This community organizes a conference annually in different countries of the region (Santiago, Chile-2007, Aguascalientes, Mexico-2008, Merida, Mexico-2009). Year after year, more researchers, professors, teachers and students participate in this conference.

These conferences have created enriching opportunities for discussion and exchange of experiences among researchers and teachers. These activities have enabled the birth of numerous inter-university collaborative projects, one example is the Latin American Federation of Repositories of Learning Objects (FLOR) composed of several members of the Community.

This time the event will be subject not only learning objects but all of those technologies that help one way or another to improve education and learning. It also has an interest in increasing and improving the formation of networks of knowledge through multidisciplinary collaborative projects, so the call is aimed at scholars, educators, technologists, educational specialists and interested public.

This year, three Brazilian universities: Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul (http://www.cruzeirodosul.edu.br), Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (http://www.mackenzie.br) and the Universidade Federal do ABC (http://www.ufabc.edu.br), join forces to coordinate the 5th. Latin American Conference on Learning Objects and Learning Technologies (LACLO 2010) to be held from 27 September to 1 October 2010 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
