The goal of study Foundations of Data Mining is to laying sound foundations for Mining and Discovery, shaping new data mining paradigms, seeking solutions to long standing data mining problems, and stimulating new data mining research directions. The central objective in this symposium is to explore various fundamental issues of data mining, spark new communications and collaborations between researchers and practitioners, and foster the study of data mining as a scientific field. Both data mining researchers and practitioners are welcome to submit original and high quality papers on relevant topics in the field of data mining. +++++++++++ Highlights +++++++++++ This symposium, which is conjunction with IEEE 2010 International Conference on Granular Computing, will be held in Silicon Valley, California. Many high-tech companies (IBM, Google, Yahoo and etc.) and several distinguished universities (Stanford, UC Berkeley and etc.) are just around the corner. Some interactions may be organized. The area now known as Silicon Valley has been a center of technological development since the 1950's. The name Silicon Valley stems from the early 1970's, when the area had become the center for many semiconductor companies. While still hosting semiconductor and microprocessor companies, the region now hosts the headquarters of high tech companies of every kind, including many of the best known and most prestigious names in personal computers, Web search, Internet auctions, networking, storage, databases, etc. +++++++++++++++++++ Topics of Interest +++++++++++++++++++ This symposium will focus on, but not limited to, the following topics * Mathematical foundations of Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery * Logical aspects of Data Mining * Modeling of Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery * Theory of Learning and Discovery * Theory of Patterns * Complexity in Data Mining and Discovery * Uncertainty in Data Mining and Discovery * Theory of Web Intelligence * (Cyber-) Learning about (Cyber-) Learning * Data Mining and Computing with Words * New paradigms for Data Mining and Learning * Solutions to Long-Standing Data Mining Problems * Theory-Guided Practice in Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery ++++++++++++++++ Important Dates ++++++++++++++++ Electronic submission of full papers: May 1, 2010 Notification of paper acceptance: May 25, 2010 Camera-ready of accepted papers: June 10, 2010 Symposium: August 14-16, 2010 ++++++++++++++++ Paper Submission ++++++++++++++++ Paper submission URL: http://wici-lab.org/cyberchair/GrC10/scripts/submit_symposium.php?subarea=S1 Paper length: 6 pages in IEEE 2-column format ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Style Files for Paper Submission ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscript Formatting Guidelines 8.5" x 11" DOC: ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/instruct8.5x11.doc PDF: ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/instruct8.5x11.pdf PS: ftp://pubftp.computer.org/press/outgoing/proceedings/instruct.ps LaTex Formatting Macros: ftp://pubftp.computer.org/Press/Outgoing/proceedings/IEEE_CS_Latex8.5x11x2.zip |
