ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL GREEN BUILDING CONFERENCE (IGBC)
IGBC is organised by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore in collaboration with our strategic partners, the Singapore Green Building Council and Reed Exhibitions. Into our tenth run, IGBC will be held from 5 – 7 September 2018 and is the anchor event of the Singapore Green Building Week (SGBW).

SGBW will play host to international green building experts, policy-makers, academics and built environment practitioners, for a congregation of ideas, collaboration and learning, to achieve a shared vision of a greener planet through the green building movement.

Held in Marina Bay Sands, the premier green building event in Asia Pacific, IGBC 2018 is expected to attract more than 1,500 participants from over 30 countries - from thought leaders, real estate developers to urban planners, architects, engineers, builders and other industry professionals - committed to understanding and putting into action real-world, tangible and leading green building solutions. Also present at the conference will be policy-makers and key government officials from several growth markets, who will give their unique public sector perspective on green building solutions, policies and plans. Academia will also share their latest research findings in green building fields.

IGBC 2018 will be held alongside the annual BEX and MCE Asia 2018 – Southeast Asia's premier business platform for the green building and construction industry. A dedicated trade event that has a strategic focus on the Build Green environment, it features eco-friendly, energy efficient building materials, designs and architecture – reaching out to Green building suppliers, industry practitioners and professionals.

For IGBC 2018, we will be partnering with SGBC and international Green Building Councils in the formulation of the programme and the selection of presentations, to facilitate a broader and richer platform for discourse and dialogue.

The presentations at IGBC 2018 would be:

- Industry-specific: focusing on industry trends, solutions, and best practices in the green building industry; or
- Academic / Research specific: focusing on academic topic and research in the area of green building

SESSION STYLE AND LENGTH
IGBC is committed to providing engaging and interesting platforms for attendees. Therefore, we are offering flexibility in presentation styles to better engage and communicate ideas. You can indicate your presentation style preference when submitting your proposal. The duration of each presentation should not be longer than 20 minutes.

Options include:

- Structured Discussion: 20 minutes presentations before a moderated panel discussion
- Pecha Kucha 20x20 / Green Building’s Den: Presentations consisting of 20 slides which are shown for 20 seconds each
- Master Classes: A lecture for those who are interested in understanding a certain topic at a profound level
- Round-table Discussion: 15 minutes of presentation, followed by 30 minutes of discussion and feedback to small group of audience

Do note that the presentation style will not affect your evaluation. Final presentation/delivery style will be further discussed with presenter should the submission be selected.

PRESENTATION TOPICS
The following broad topics have been identified as priorities for the 2018 programme. However, submissions outside of the identified topics will be fairly reviewed as long as it is in line with the theme and objectives of IGBC 2018.

Topic 1: Better Places for People and Communities: Health, Biophilia and Well-being
There is growing momentum for green and healthy buildings, communities and cities. At the macro level cities are working to reduce the health impacts that urban areas are having on citizens through urban design interventions, policies and urban greening programmes. At the building level, research has demonstrated the commercial (and social) importance of the health and wellbeing of building users through metrics that show higher worker productivity and satisfaction. These findings have driven tenant demands for green buildings and offices. This track calls for submissions that investigate strategies focusing on the health and wellbeing of buildings, communities and cities and could include:

- Technical case studies with a focus on healthy workspaces
- User engagement strategies
- Biophilic Design
- Urban design

Topic 2: Smart low carbon construction: materials, systems and methods
The track aims to offer a platform for the sharing of innovative perspectives on how owners, consultants and builders address environmental issues effectively through materials, technology and smart approach. How the synergies between productivity, sustainability and integrated digital delivery (IDD) would facilitate the formation of a smart built environment. Examples of topics could include (but not limited to):

- Smart technologies and innovative approach to productivity and integrated digital delivery
- Successful case studies on green buildings with adoption of productive measures
- Successful public-private partnerships in progressing the green building agenda with technology and smart approach for significant improvement in project delivery
- Smart sustainable building materials (eg. self-healing concrete, materials with embedded sensors etc)
- Next generation alternative sustainable materials/ products
- Next generation sustainable building systems or methods (eg. 3-for-2 concept)
- Building with sustainability and productivity in mind

Topic 3: Digitalisation of buildings: from design to operations
Building automation and management are currently being reshaped by the introduction of information technology and the power of data analytics. Combined with a diverse set of intelligent equipment, a smart building/city can optimize its performance, bring down its operating costs and improve its users' comfort. This track invites submission on innovative upcoming or existing smart building technology that responds intuitively and intelligently to the environment and occupant’s demand. Examples of topics could include (but not limited to):

- Innovative Smart Building Technologies
- Lessons learnt from early adopters of smart city/building solutions
- Smart energy management systems within buildings
- Smart Facilities Management index for buildings in Singapore
- Good Facilities management procurement practices
- Facilities Management operating model from start to end

Topic 4: Green Investment and Innovative Financial Instruments
Various green funding models had been introduced to help building owners boost the returns on their investment in Energy efficiency (EE) retrofits and renewable energy (RE) adoption. This track invites submission on valuation systems, financing solutions as well as cost and benefit analysis of retrofitting existing properties which includes but not limited to the following:

- The relationship between Green Building and its valuation / Valuation methods that recognise sustainability.
- Financing models to deliver smart and resilient growth of cities and infrastructure
- Zero capex programs- Solar Leasing, Energy Performance Contracting, chauffage contracts
- Green Bonds

Topic 5: Advancing Net Zero and Super Low Energy
Climate change is happening. We can see its devastating effects globally and there will be an increase in extreme and unusual weather patterns. The Paris Agreement sought for international co-operation and action to start the concerted effort to reduce the impacts of devastating climate change. The built environment has a huge role to play in reducing our environmental impact as well as being designed to be resilient to the changing climate. A push for zero energy and zero carbon developments is seen as a necessity and an achievable target for the majority of developments in the near future. This track aims to explore the path to zero energy and zero carbon developments and could include

- Building/District case studies of zero energy and low/ zero carbon developments.
- Design strategies that demonstrate resilience to climate change
- Low carbon building technologies and systems
- Vernacular design in the 21st century.
- Innovative Building Technologies in building façade, ACMV, Lighting, smart building management system, plug load management, renewable energy, etc.

Topic 6: State-of-the-Art Projects
This track invites submissions of all types of state-of-the-art building projects. Papers could include best practices and strategies to design, construct, operate, maintain and quantify high-performance buildings. Examples of topics include (but not limited to):

- Outstanding Case Studies on sustainability and productivity
- Cost and time effective design and construction strategies.
- Managing and operating high-performance green facilities
- Optimised passive and active green building designs
- Sustainable and productive construction practice
