Call For Papers

3rd Conference on Sensor Signal Processing for Defence (SSPD), 2012
25-27 September, 2012 - London, UK
http://www.mod-udrc.org/Conference2012

-----------------------------------------------------------------

We are cordially inviting you to submit papers to and attend the second Sensor Signal Processing for Defence (SSPD 2012) Conference: www.mod-udrc.org/Conference2012

The conference to be held at Imperial College in London on 25-27 September 2012 is organised by the University Defence Research Centre (UDRC) in Signal Processing, sponsored by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and co-sponsored by IEEE SPS, IET and EURASIP. The purpose of the conference is to provide a public forum for researchers from academia, defence, government and industry to present, exchange ideas and discuss developments in multisensory signal processing.

Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Array Signal Processing,
- Image Processing
- Radar, Sonar and Audio Signal Processing
- Multimodal Signal Processing
- Signal Processing for Security
- Sensor Fusion
- Image and Video Classification
- Distributed Signal Processing for Wireless Sensor Networks
- Signal Processing for Communications

In all these topics, emphasis of the Conference is given on the following areas that play a substantial role in improving the performance of defence systems:

- Sensor Array Calibration: Signal processing technologies that allow sensor arrays to be calibrated or recalibrated whilst in-use to compensating for variations in both the positions and the electronic characteristics of the sensors all of which can change with time.
- Broadband Signal Separation: Signal processing that separates broadband signals received at a sensor array into the signals from individual targets, enabling correct Detection, Classification and Localisation (DCL) of multiple simultaneous targets.
- Detection: Signal processing technologies that detect when received signals contain contributions from a target, particularly against a background of clutter (or reverberation) and interference.
- Classification: Signal processing technologies that identify or categorise targets.
- Superesolution Direction Finding and Localisation: Signal processing technologies that yield more accurate target bearing estimates (and, where relevant, range estimates) than conventional localisation techniques, in particular when targets are close together in angle and/or range.
- Multipath Mitigation: Signal processing technologies that enable the Detection, Classification and Localisation (DCL) of targets in the presence of multipath – as multipath can render classic DCL systems ineffective.
- SWAP: Signal processing technologies that enable the use of sensor hardware of reduced size, weight and power (SWAP).
- Non-Stationary Processing: Signal processing technologies which enable the DCL of fleeting or rapidly manoeuvring targets, or using non-rigid sensor arrays.

A number of other outstanding speakers from academia and defence will be confirmed soon. Only a 50 pounds (GBP) nominal fee will be charged for the conference registration that includes the conference proceedings and dinner. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, which will also be available on the Inspec database and IEEE/IEE Xplore.

EXTENDED PAPER SUBMISSION DEADLINE:
Paper Submission deadline: June 15, 2012
Notification of Acceptance: July 15, 2012
Camera-Ready Submissions: Sep 9, 2012
Conference Dates: September 25-27, 2012

For more information about the conference, organizing committee, submission instructions, and venue please see the conference website: www.mod-udrc.org/Conference2012

We look forward to your paper submission and participation at the conference.

Best Regards

Kin Leung (Imperial College London) and Paul Thomas (Dstl) - General Chairs SSPD 2012
