Call for papers: "Histories of the Future: Proto-Science Fiction from the Victorian Era to the Radium Age"
This anthology of proto-SF seeks critical essays that situate stories in their cultural and historical contexts. Critical essays will serve as short introductions to the stories, which will be published within the collection. In particular, we are looking for responses to early 20th century “pulp” SF, including but not limited to: Charles Wolfe, “The Phantom Arm,” Electrical Experimenter (June 1920) Franklin Ruth, “In 1999,” Science and Invention (April 1921) Herbert L. Moulton, “The Mystery of the Dampy-Undampy Messages,” Radio News (Jan 1921) To meet the criteria, the story must have been published before 1923. Email a proposal consisting of a 300-400 word abstract, bibliographic information for companion story, and CV to the editor (robertsi@vcu.edu). Editor: Ivy Roberts, Virginia Commonwealth University Deadline for proposals: March 25, 2018 |
