Call for Papers: 1st Workshop on Emerging Data Engineering Methods and Approaches for Precision Medicine – DEPM 2018 Held in conjunction with ICDE 2018, April 16th 2018, Paris, France =========================================================== About the Workshop ----- The goal of the workshop is to bring together leading researchers and practitioners working on a diverse range of theoretic and practical approaches for the scalable engineering of genomic, molecular, imaging, text and other medical research, clinical, and administrative data in the context of precision medicine. The workshop will consist of diverse talks along with discussions about current problems, tools and techniques for engineering, sharing, fusing, analyzing and managing the quality of heterogeneous biomedical data, and how these solutions may be applied to the challenges as well as future needs of research and applications in precision medicine. Topics of Interest ----- The workshop will be focused on, but not limited to, the following broad themes: - Scalable algorithms, tools, and techniques for the engineering of data in molecular biology, genomics, medical imaging, clinical and administrative operations, and medical sciences, - Practical approaches for the secure and privacy-preserving management and sharing of diverse and heterogeneous biomedical data, including data de-identification, methods for distributed data analysis and synthetic data generation, - Specialized algorithms for efficient storage and delivery of precision medicine data products, - Machine learning and artificial intelligence-enabled engineering, cleaning, curation, fusion and quality control of data for precision medicine, - Workflows and pipelines for life science data engineering, - High performance computing methods and software for the derivation of biomedical data products, and - Software and hardware foundations for managing Big Data in biomedical informatics. In addition to regular papers catering to the above spectrum of topics, we also invite "position papers" which highlight some of the grand challenges, scientific problems or a vision, along with related challenges and advances. Important Dates • January 15, 2018: Submission • February 15, 2018: Notification Organization ----- Edmon Begoli, PhD, Chief Data Architect, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, begolie@ornl.gov Geraldine Van der Auwera, PhD, VP for Publicity and Communications, Data Engineering Group Leader, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, vdauwera@broadinstitute.org Fabian Prasser, PhD, Institute of Medical Informatics, Statistics and Epidemiology, Technical University of Munich (TUM), fabian.prasser@tum.de More information is available on http://www.depmws.org =========================================================== |
