BECS 2021 - Call for Participation 2021 International Workshop on Big data driven Edge Cloud Services http://becs.kaist.ac.kr/iwbecs2021/ ------------------------------------------------------------------ Co-located with the 21st International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE 2021) May 18-21, 2021, Biarritz, France https://icwe2021.webengineering.org/ Edge clouds are becoming an important computing infrastructure for collecting and processing big data as low-latency and reliable communication technologies such as 5G, and Web of Things (WoT) are developed and deployed. Edge clouds are especially useful for efficient and secure data collection and processing for smart cities and smart factories. In edge cloud environments, it is essential to provide web services by efficiently collecting and processing various types of big data in real-time. In addition, it is necessary to develop a framework for building big data service applications in a reliable and usable manner. This workshop aims to provide a venue in which scholars and practitioners can share their experiences and present ongoing work on providing value-added web services for users by utilizing big data in edge cloud environments. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to: - Web services in edge clouds - Web of things in edge clouds - AI in edge computing (Edge AI) - Dependable and highly usable big data platforms - Distributed data collection, analysis and prediction - Stream data processing in edge clouds - Big knowledge graphs for distributed edge cloud environments - Modeling and mashup of edge cloud services - Microservice architecture for edge cloud environments - Edge-cloud interaction and collaboration Organization: - In-Young Ko, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology - Abhishek Srivastava, Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India - Michael Mrissa, InnoRenew CoE, University of Primorska, Slovenia Workshop Program: The overall workshop schedule is as follows (all time is in Central European Standard Time, CEST): 09:00-09:15 CEST Opening 09:15-10:00 CEST Keynote talk 10:00-10:40 CEST Paper session I (2 papers) 10:40-11:00 CEST Break 11:00-12:20 CEST Paper session II (4 papers) 12:20-12:30 CEST Closing Keynote Talk: Speaker: Dr. Domenico Siracusa, Head of the RiSING research unit at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), Italy Title: Distributing Intelligence in the Cloud-to-Edge Continuum Abstract: Progressive digitalisation, advances in communication technologies and the increasing complexity of IoT-based and Artificial Intelligence applications are fostering the need to support fine-grained, dynamic management of resources on the Cloud-to-Edge continuum. This talk presents the vision proposed by the EU-Korea project DECENTER to create and deploy cloud-native applications over heterogeneous and distributed computing environments. The talk will then discuss the application of the developed technlogies in real-world pilot scenarios stemming from smart city and robotic logistics environments, providing insights on outcomes and open challenges. Bio: Domenico Siracusa (PhD) is the head of the RiSING research unit at Fondazione Bruno Kessler. He is project manager and technical leader of the H2020 EU-Korea DECENTER Project. In the past, he coordinated the H2020 ACINO and EIT Digital DigiFlow projects. He authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications on cloud computing, networking, security and robustness.
