HGS represents the interests of geographers in Greece (Hellas), and is a member of the European Association of Geographers (EuroGEO), and the International Geographical Union (IGU) service the needs of geographers throughout Europe and the world, respectively. Our conference is structured around a number of thematically-focused sessions during which geographers present their work. The typical format involves four consecutive 20-minute scholarly presentations, followed by comments and critique offered by the appointed discussant, and questions and answers from the audience. This year, we are enriching the scientific discussion by inviting young researchers of various disciplines related to geography (Geograφistas) to submit abstracts of their own research work, organize their sessions and actually have their own conference within the conference. The conference also incorporates discussion panels on timely topics of Geography. We will offer the opportunity to participate in one of several workshops and tutorials on cutting-edge topics of Geography. These workshops will take place on Thursday April 12, 2018. Conference topics include, but are not limited to: • Applied Geography • Cartography • Climatology and Meteorology • Cultural Landscape and Geography • Economic Geography • Geographic Information Systems and Science • Geographical Education • Geoinformation • Geology – Geomorphology • Geospatial Analysis & Modeling • Hazards, Risks, and Disasters • Island Regions • Land Use Models • Location Analysis • Marine and Coastal Resources • Mountainous areas • Natural Resources • Oceanography • Physical Geography • Regional Geography • Remote Sensing • Smart & Sustainable Cities • Social Geography • Transport Geography • Urban and Regional Planning • Urban Geography • Water Resources and Hydrology |
