/ XChange Reality! ///
Exploring the Future of Current Challenges with Augmented and Virtual Reality | 27-30 April 2020, St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences

Digital collaboration, continuous innovation and the augmentation of reality are major buzzwords of our times. As growth to infinity and beyond is often the main goal, we sometimes forget about the social and environmental impact we need to address in our projects.

XChange Reality! means DO SOMETHING! What actually has the power to change your reality? When will the future be GLAMorous again? How do we intend to create and sustain our urban and regional environment? Can Mixed Reality (XR) help us address current challenges or even find new solutions for the future? What we want to identify with you: what are these current challenges? What could new solutions for the future look like?

/ Description ///
To tackle these urgent and important issues, XChange Reality! uses XR as its technical foundation and combines the following two approaches:

** A participatory hackathon **
organised by OpenGLAM.at
The hackathon part starts with a keynote speech on the impact of OpenData by Arturo Sanchez (CERN/CH) which shows what opening up data can achieve for our social system. Inspired by the talk, we create a purpose for every individual need of each participant of the (third cultural) hackathon on how AR can help create a better future. Starting a “conversation that matters” is the beginning of a new future. “Being present” among others could be a first step. Join the (cultural) hackathon, make your vision in XR visible to the public, and present it to an international audience. No advanced knowledge is neccessary - all kinds of interested people are welcome. We’ll finish with another talk about the biggest project human and social sciences has ever seen. Stay tuned!

** An interdisciplinary conference **
organised by the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences
The conference part of XChange Reality! brings together specialists from various research areas of the digital humanities such as animation, games and media studies with experts from both vision-oriented computer science areas such as computer graphics or information visualisation, and experts from technically-oriented computer science areas such as data integration, Internet of Things or smart automation. By encouraging synergies of interdisciplinary approaches, the conference examines the state of the art within the XR area from different angles and creates new knowledge in the present for the future.

The thematic fields of both approaches include:
- GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives and museums, etc.)
- Urban and regional development (environment, architecture, tourism, art and culture, etc.)
- Industries (manufacturing, construction, creative, etc.)

Technical topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Hardware/software support for XR
- Interdisciplinary and intermedia approaches (e.g. games, film, theatre, fine arts, etc.)
- Motion and/or performance capture
- Tools/methods/use cases for interactive dissemination of XR content
- Use cases and applications of content in XR environments
- User acceptance of XR contents
- ...

/ Deadlines & Dates ///
Paper submission deadline for the conference part: 31 January 2020
Notification of acceptance for the paper submission: 15 March 2020
Camera-ready deadline: 15 April 2020
Registration for participation: 1 March 2020
Doors open from 27 April, 4:30 pm until 30 April, 6 pm

/ Conference Contribution Formats ///
Contributions are planned to be included and indexed in the CEUR-WS digital library.

- Research papers (6-8 pages): novel results or state-of-the-art reports in the above-mentioned thematic fields related to XR development
- Short papers (up to 4 pages): preliminary results or work in progress
- Posters & demos (abstracts 1 page): should be of interest to the broad XR community and be presentable in a conference setting exhibiting new and innovative work. XChange Reality! will provide the basic infrastructure (space, a table, WiFi and power).

Papers must be written in English and follow the IEEE Computer Society format for conference papers which can be found here:
http://junctionpublishing.org/vgtc/Tasks/camera.html

All papers and camera-ready versions have to be submitted electronically using the EasyChair conference management tool:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=xchangereality2020

Submissions will be reviewed by at least 2 PC members following a single-blind review process. Accepted papers will be given guidelines for preparing and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance.
