CALL FOR PAPERS

The Third Workshop on Question Generation (QG 2010)
www.questiongeneration.org/QG2010

To be held during the Tenth International Conference on Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, June 14-18, 2010

Submission deadline: April 15th, 2010

***********************************

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Asking questions is an important function of advanced learning technologies such as intelligent tutoring systems, inquiry-based environments, and game-based learning environments. Automatically generating high-quality questions is the long-term goal of the emerging Question Generation (QG) research community. QG 2010 solicits the involvement of participants from many disciplines including, but not limited to, Intelligent Tutoring Systems, Psycholinguistics, Discourse and Dialogue, Natural Language Generation, and Natural Language Understanding. We invite submissions that deal with cognitive or computational aspects of question generation.

QG 2010 is the third in a line of workshops on Question Generation. The Second Workshop on Question Generation was held in conjunction with the 2009 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, and the First Workshop on the Question Generation Shared Task and Evaluation Challenge was held in 2008 at the National Science Foundation.

QG 2010 will operate in cooperation with the First Question Generation Shared Task and Evaluation Challenge, QGSTEC 2010. QGSTEC participants are required to send an Expression of Interest for the QGSTEC separately. Further information on the QGSTEC can be found at the QGSTEC web site (www.questiongeneration.org/QGSTEC2010).

CONTENT AND THEMES:
-Cognitive and computational models of question generation
-Question taxonomies
-Data collection and preparation for developing, training, and testing QG systems
-Representation languages for data and resource sharing between QG systems
-Annotation schemes and processes
-Evaluation of generated questions: metrics and methods (human, automatic, semi-automatic)
-Descriptions of QG approaches and their evaluation
-Descriptions of QG tasks and subtasks for future QGSTECs

SUBMISSIONS:
We cordially invite submissions on topics including but not limited to those listed above. We invite submissions of short papers (4 pages including references) and long papers (up to 8 pages including references). Authors must follow the formatting guidelines for Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science. The submission deadline for both long and short papers is April 15th, 2010; detailed submission instructions will be posted at www.questiongeneration.org/QG2010.

FORMAT:
The full-day workshop will consist of a main track followed by a special session presenting results from the QGSTEC 2010.

The Expert Systems Journal plans a special issue on Question Generation based on work presented at QG 2010.
