Call For Papers

Call for Research Papers

ICSE is the leading international forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns in the field of software engineering.

We invite high quality submissions describing original unpublished research results, case studies, and empirical studies. We encourage submissions relating to all aspects of software engineering, especially on topics of emerging interest. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:
* Requirements Engineering
* Specification and Verification
* Software Architecture and Design
* Patterns and Frameworks
* Analysis and Testing
* Reverse Engineering, Refactoring, and Evolution
* Program Comprehension and Visualization
* Tools and Environments
* Empirical Software Engineering
* Development Paradigms and Software Processes
* Software Metrics
* Computer-supported Cooperative Work
* Component-based, Aspect-oriented, Service-oriented Software Engineering
* Model Driven Engineering
* Distributed Systems and Middleware
* Mobile and Embedded Systems
* Open Standards and Certification
* Software Economics
* Software Configuration and Deployment
* Dependability (safety, security, reliability)
* Case Studies and Experience Reports

ICSE is a very selective conference, but it is still a conference. This means that we are interested in innovative ideas that are well presented, timely, have strong potential, but are not necessarily perfect or complete. Improvements over previously published work are expected to be evaluated through rigorous analyses, empirical studies, or experiments.

In contrast, variants on existing work must show a demonstrably significant improvement in quality, productivity, or other metric. Submissions must clearly and comprehensively report on relevant related work and on how a paper's contributions advance the state of the art. Lastly, even the best ideas can be misunderstood if the writing is poor, so we strongly encourage all authors to ensure that their submissions are written in clear and grammatically correct English.

This year, we introduce a mentoring program aimed at new prospective submitters to the research track, in which past ICSE authors offer advice on the structure and content of a prospective submission. See the Mentoring Program website for details (http://www.cs.uoregon.edu/events/icse2009/mentorProgram/).

[How to submit]

Please read all of these instructions prior to submitting your paper.

Research papers should describe innovative and significant original research relevant to ICSE as described above. Papers submitted for consideration should not have been published elsewhere and should not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere during the duration of consideration.

Technical papers must conform, at time of submission, to the ICSE 2009 Format and Submission Guidelines, and must not exceed 10 pages, including all text, references, appendices, and figures. All submissions must be in English. Submissions must be in PDF format. Submissions that do not comply with the foregoing instructions will be administratively rejected without review.

Note: camera-ready copy will utilize the same format and length limits required of submissions, and thus, your submission should reflect the form that you anticipate your camera-ready copy will take.

Papers must be submitted electronically through CyberChairPRO. The deadline for submitting abstracts is August 29, 2008. The deadline for submitting research papers is September 5, 2008. Both deadlines are hard and non-negotiable, and an abstract must be submitted for each paper submission.

[Review and Evaluation Criteria]

Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of originality, importance of contribution, soundness, evaluation, quality of presentation, and appropriate comparison to related work. The program committee as a whole will make final decisions about which submissions to accept for presentation at the conference.

[Acceptance]

Upon notification of acceptance, all authors of accepted papers will be asked to complete an IEEE Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera ready versions. At least one author of the paper is expected to present the results at the ICSE 2009 conference. All accepted contributions will be published in the conference proceedings which will also be available electronically.
