Submission to SCA 2023 is now open: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sca23 Conference registration is now open: https://web.cvent.com/event/caa33847-429e-4973-9953-6e4f3e5bca50/summary The 22nd annual ACM/Eurographics Symposium on Computer Animation (SCA) will take place in sunny Los Angeles, California from August 4 to August 6, 2023, immediately before the 50th anniversary of SIGGRAPH. For almost two decades now, SCA has been the premier forum for presenting innovations in the theory and practice of computer animation. Bringing together academic and industrial researchers and practitioners working in all aspects of time-based phenomena, SCA provides an intimate setting that encourages community interaction, promotes the exchange of research results, inspires future ideas, and establishes new collaborations. Conditionally accepted regular papers will undergo a second round of revision and will, upon approval, appear in the journal Proceedings of the ACM in Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (PACMCGIT). Best Paper Awards will be given to excellent submissions that push the leading edge. Important dates (23:59pm AoE) Submission Deadline (Papers and Posters): 5 April, 2023 Notification of Acceptance: 15 May, 2023 Awards Nomination: 31 May, 2023 Revised Version: 13 June, 2023 Journal Notification: 27 June, 2023 Camera-ready Paper: 3 July, 2023 Topics We invite work on a broad range of animation topics, including and not limited to: 2D, 3D, and N-D animation systems. Autonomous characters Physics-based animation and character control Clothing and hair animation and simulation Expressive motion / communication Facial animation Fabrication of dynamic objects and characters Group and crowd behavior Intuitive interfaces for creating and editing animations Mathematical foundations of animation Methods of control and artistic direction of simulations Nature in motion (natural phenomena, plants, clouds, …) New time-based art forms on the computer Novel time-varying phenomena Perceptual foundations and metrics for animation Physical realism / measuring the real world for animation Physical simulation Fluid animation Planning / learning / optimization for animation Real-time and interactive methods Animation, evaluation, and perception in AR/VR/MR/XR Camera control methods for computer animation Sound and speech for animation as well as related problems and techniques in robotics, game development, human-computer interaction, simulation, visualization, computer vision, and beyond. Technical Papers We invite submissions of original, high-quality papers on computer animation, broadly defined as computation dealing with time-varying phenomena. Each submission will be reviewed by an international program committee for technical quality, novelty, significance, and clarity. Technical papers should be submitted electronically using the online system. Paper submissions must be anonymous and include the unique paper ID that will be assigned upon creating a submission using the online system. The SCA paper program uses double-blind reviewing, so please remove all personal data, such as author names and affiliation from all your submission files. Papers should not exceed 10 pages (excluding references), and should be written and presented in English. Format your paper in pdf according to the ACM proceedings “sigconf” Latex template. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra content. Supplementary material such as videos may also be submitted electronically and will be made available to reviewers (size up to 200MB). SCA has a two-cycle review process. All technical papers accepted in the first round (to be announced on May 15th) will be guaranteed a presentation slot and to appear in the SCA proceedings. They will then undergo a thorough second round of revision and review, and (conditional on final acceptance) be published in the journal Proceedings of the ACM in Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (PACMCGIT). In the case that a paper fails to pass the second review round, authors retain the option to withdraw the paper or exclude it from the conference/proceedings, if requested. Paper submissions can choose to be considered for the Posters program if they are rejected. Reviewers will make decisions accordingly. Papers should not have previously appeared in, or be currently submitted to, any other conference or journal. SCA follows the same anonymity policy as SIGGRAPH. Any case of violation will be determined by the chairs and could result in a desk rejection. A paper submission should describe an original work of the authors. Authors must not use ideas or content originating from others without properly crediting their original sources. Note that such sources are not limited to peer-reviewed publications, but also include patents, textbooks, technical reports, theses, unpublished work posted on arXiv, as well as other posts on the World Wide Web. Failure to comply with this requirement will be considered plagiarism and result in rejection. For more details, please consult the guidance provided by ACM. Poster Abstracts As in previous years, the poster session will be an integral part of the SCA program. Poster abstracts should be submitted electronically using the online system. Submissions must be camera-ready, with author names and affiliations listed. The review process will be single blind. Poster abstract submissions should consist of a PDF formatted paper according to the ACM proceedings “sigconf” LaTeX template. Submissions are permitted to be up to two pages in length, written and presented in English. Supplementary material such as videos may also be submitted electronically and will be made available to reviewers. All supplementary materials must be submitted as a single zip file (size up to 200MB) . Poster abstracts will be included in the ACM and EG Digital Libraries, thus providing a better and longstanding referencing to the works. Accepted posters will have the opportunity to give a one-minute preview in the poster fast-forward session, and be presented in the poster session. Early Career Researcher Award The SCA Early Career Researcher Award highlights a junior researcher who has made a recent, significant contribution to the field of computer animation. The awardee should have received their Ph.D. or the equivalent up to five years ago, excluding eligible leaves for maternity, illness, and parental duties. The intent is to recognize people who have already made a notable contribution very early in their careers and are likely to make more. Self-nominations are accepted. Submission Materials (send to sca2023awards@gmail.com by May 31, 2023): Research statement (max 1 page) CV Brief nomination letter or email (optional) Doctoral Dissertation Award The SCA Doctoral Dissertation Award recognizes a recent doctoral candidate who has successfully defended their Ph.D. dissertation in an area related to computer animation. This award recognizes graduating or newly graduated Ph.D. students who show strong potential to land impactful and innovative contributions in their further careers. The dissertation must have been defended in the year prior to the given SCA year (e.g., Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2022 for the 2023 SCA). The key criteria used to evaluate the nominations include technical depth, significance of the research contribution, and potential impact on theory and practice. Submission Materials (send to sca2023awards@gmail.com by May 31, 2023): Letter of nomination by a faculty member CV for the nominee, including a complete list of publications Electronic version (PDF) of the Ph.D. dissertation Organizers Conference Co-chairs: Chenfanfu Jiang (UCLA) Mridul Aanjaneya (Rutgers University) Program Co-chairs: Huamin Wang (Style3D) Yuting Ye (Meta) Awards Co-chairs: Sophie Joerg (Clemson University) Yang Yin (University of Utah) Media Chair: David Hyde (Vanderbilt University) Supporting Chair: Xuan Li (UCLA) Please contact the organizers should you have any questions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
