CALL FOR PAPERS ********************************************************************************** The 11th International Workshop on Large-Scale and Distributed Systems for Information Retrieval *** DEADLINE EXTENDED***: December 23, 2013 http://www.lsdsir.org Co-located with ACM WSDM 2014, February 28, 2014, New York NY, USA Aims & Topics of Interest ------------------------- The growth of the Web and other Big Data sources lead to important performance problems for large-scale distributed information retrieval (IR) systems. Scalability and efficiency of these systems also have an impact on their effectiveness. Consequently, scalability and efficiency in the context of retrieval systems continue to be an important topic in IR research. The LSDS-IR'14 workshop will provide space for researchers to discuss such problems and to define new directions for the work on information retrieval in the modern Big Data era. Topics of interest will include, but will not be limited to: - Novel distributed IR applications - Web search in the cloud: applications of cloud computing to IR - Big Data techniques for IR applications - Energy-aware processing techniques for web search - IR algorithms on novel computing architectures - Efficiency for feature-based models - Efficiency and scalability in distributed query processing - Multi-site web search engines - Inverted index partitioning and replication models - Lossy and lossless inverted index compression - Collection selection and result merging in federated IR - Distributed web crawling - Distributed indexing and retrieval of dynamic information sources - Caching for search engines - Retrieval models for distributed IR - Standards and benchmarks for distributed IR - Evaluation of the impact of search efficiency on user satisfaction - IR on large-scale web archives - IR algorithms for exotic high-performance computer architectures Program committee (incomplete) ------------------------------ - Fabrizio Silvestri (ISTI - CNR) - Eitan Frachtenberg (Facebook) - Torsten Suel (Polytechnic Institute of NYU) - Marcus Fontoura (Google) - Ruey-Cheng Chen (National Taiwan University) - Shuai Ding (Google) - Xiao Bai (Yahoo Labs) - Vassilis Plachouras (IMIS/ATHENA R.C.) - Sebastiano Vigna (The University of Milan) - Alexandros Ntoulas (Zynga) - Simon Jonassen (cXense) - Rifat Ozcan (Turgut Ozal University) Important dates --------------- - Paper Submission (EXTENDED TO): December 23, 2013 - Notification of Acceptance: January 10, 2014 - Camera Ready: January 17, 2014 Submission Instructions ----------------------- The workshop calls for two types of contribution: original technical contributions (6 pages) and position papers (4 pages), both including figures, tables and references in the standard ACM conference format (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates). Papers have to present original research contributions not concurrently submitted elsewhere, and must be submitted electronically in printable PDF format. Submitted papers will undergo a peer review process by at least three members of the program committee. The review process is single blind. At least one author of an accepted paper must register for the workshop. A special award will be given to the best paper. Papers must be submitted at the following site: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lsdsir2014 Accepted workshop papers will be published in online workshop proceedings. As for past editions of the workshop, the workshop chairs will consider the opportunity to organize a special issue in an international journal with extended versions of best papers.
